DESIGNATING LIGHTED FOUNTAIN IN CARTERET PARK
IN HONOR OF RETIRED POLICE SERGEANT
JOSEPH JAMES KIRALY
WHEREAS, Retired Police Sergeant Joseph James Kiraly, a life long resident °f the
Borough of Carteret, has served the community for many years; and
WHEREAS, Retired Police Sergeant Joseph James Kiraly has played a major role
in the Police Athletic League in the Borough of Carteret; founded the High School
P.A.L. Auxiliary and served as their advisor; and through his efforts obtained boxing
equipment to train interested boys for the Golden Gloves; and
WHEREAS, Retired POlice Sergeant Kiraly was active in the Little Carteret League
and was instrumental in organizing the "Home Run Derby" for the youth of Carteret;
and
WHEREAS, Retired Police Sergeant Kiraly fingle-handedly raised funds to send
a local teenager to the Regional Finals of the A. AU. Junior Olympics in Syracuse,
New York and another to Memphis, Tennessee for the National AA.U Junior
Olympics in 1976; and
WHEREAS, Retired pOlice Sergeant Kiraly was nominated for the Fourth Annual
Valor Honors Awards conducted by the Middlesex County Blue Badge Association
for his work with the children of the Borough of Carteret; and

WHEREAS, Retired Police Sergeant Kiraly is a six (6) year veteran of the U.S.
Navy, serving aboard the J.P. Kennedy, Jr., during the Korean Conflict;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Council of the
Borough of Carteret that the Lighted Fountain in Carteret Park be designated as
"THE JAMES JOSEPH K1RALY LIGHTED FOUNTAIN"
in honor of Retired Police Sergeant Kiraly's accomplishments and dedication to the
citizens of the Borough of Carteret.
Adopted this 6th day of April, 1995
and certified as a true copy of the
original on April 7, 1995.
