1. Call to Order
Chair Klindt called the meeting to order at 2:03 p.m. in the Small Conference Room of City Hall.
A quorum was present.
2. Review minutes of meeting held April 20, 2016.
The minutes of the meeting that was held April 20, 2016, were reviewed and approved by the
committee.
3. Review Chapter 3
The review of Chapter 3 started. The committee went through and up to Section 307. The
exceptions that were noted are attached.
4. Determine next chapters for review
Continue review of Chapter 3 from the last reviewed section.
5. New Business
No new business was discussed.
6. Old Business
No old business was discussed.
7. Public Comments
No public comments were presented.
8. Next meeting date
The next meeting date will be May 18, 2016.
9. Adjourn
The meeting adjourned at 4:00 p.m.
Proposed 2015 International Residential Code Amendments:
1. Section R302.5.1 – delete “equipped with a self-closing device” from the end of this section.
2. Section R302.11 – delete item 4 (fire blocking around vents, pipes, etc.)
3. Section R302.13 – add the following exceptions:
a. “5. Open-web wood truss floor joists with draft stopping per 1,000 square feet.”
b. “6. Closed-web wood joists with one (1) hour fire treating.”
4. Section R303.4 – needs more information – Columbia is using a whole-house mechanical
ventilation system. What do we want to do?
5. Section R303.6 – Add Exception “1. Bathroom exhaust fans may be exhausted into a soffit
vent if composed of approved materials as determined by the Building Official.”
6. Figure R307.1 – Add the following: Water closet: All water closets shall be spaced at least
fifteen (15) inches from the centerline of the fixture to any wall or plumbing fixture, except
the centerline of the water closet may be spaced twelve (12) inches if located next to a
bathtub/shower unit.
