RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING RIVERDALE FIREFIGHTERS
TO ATTEND THE ANNUAL IOWA FIREFIGHTERS'
ASSOCIATION CONVENTION IN MANCHESTER, IOWA
IN SEPTEMBER, 2019
WHEREAS, pursuant to the authority granted to the Mayor and City Council of the City of
Riverdale ("City") by Section 372 of the Code of Iowa, and Chapter 35.10 of the City Code, the Fire
Chief is charged with the duty to maintain the efficiency, discipline and control of the fire department,
and the Fire Chief is responsible to the Mayor and City Council for same, pursuant to Chapter 15 of the
City Code; and,
WHEREAS, the City Council finds it to be in the interest of the public safety and to be a
community benefit that its fire fighters join in the activities, training and collaborative efforts of the Iowa
Firefighters' Association throughout the year and maintain working relationships within the Association;
and,
WHEREAS, more specifically, the City Council finds it to be in the interest of the public safety
and a benefit to the safety and effectiveness of its fire fighters that a certain number of them attend the
Iowa Firefighters' Association Convention in Manchester, Iowa, during the week of September 1 through
7, 2019; and,
WHEREAS, the City Council is appreciative of this voluntary time taken by its fire fighters, on
their own time, and is supportive of the cost of registration and camping fees for them.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
RIVERDALE, SCOTT COUNTY, IN THE STATE OF IOWA:
Section 1. That the following members of the Fire Department, upon recommendation by the Chief,
shall attend the aforesaid convention and have each of their$55.00 registration fees paid by the City:
Fire Chief Floyd Bruns, Captain R. Bowers President P. Bowers
Fire Fighter B. Bowers Fire Fighter J Claussen Fire Fighter A. Castillo
Or other fire fighter designated by Chief Bruns in the event one of the named Fire Fighters is
unable to attend.
Section 2. That the City shall pay for or re-imburse the $55.00 per person registration fee and also
the fee for ten camping spots at the cost of$65.00 each for ten spots, for a total reimbursement of
$980.00,to be paid from the Fire Department budget.
