A RESOLUTION : AUTHORIZE THE MAYOR OR HER DESIGNEE OF THE
TOWN OF LEESBURG TO SIGN THE 2020 TREE CITY USA
APPLICATION FOR THE ARBOR DAY FOUNDATION
WHEREAS, Tree City USA status has been awarded to the Town of Leesburg for 31
years, and has achieved the enumerated tasks to remain a recipient of Tree City USA for 2020
(year 32); and
WHEREAS, trees provide a multitude of benefits to urban and peri-urban communities
in helping to clean our water, scrubbing our air, and mitigating the effects of urbanization such
• as increased water flow and heat absorption, decreased, green space, and recreational
opportunities; and - -
WHEREAS, this status will allow. the Town of Leesburg to share with residents,
tourists, and visitors that Council and staff are engaged in keeping the Town of Leesburg
cleaner, greener, and cooler; and
WHEREAS, staff is in agreement.that this will enhance the tree canopy in the Town of
Leesburg by giving access to grants and other items which come under the umbrella of having
this status.
THEREFORE, RESOLVED, by the Council of the Town of Leesburg in Virginia as
follows:.
1. The Mayor of the Town of Leesburg,•or her designee, is permitted to sign the Tree
City USA application for 2020 to be submitted to the Arbor Day Foundation by Town
of Leesburg staff.
