A RESOLUTION: PRESENTED April 11, 1995 . 95-72 ADOPTED April 11~ 1995 PROCLAIMING APRIL 22 AS THE OFFICIAL ARBOR DAY FOR THE TOWN OF LEESBURG WHEREAS, in 1872 J. Sterling Morton proposed to the Nebraska Board of Agriculture that a special day be set aside for the planting of trees; and WHEREAS, this holiday, caned Arbor Day, was first observed with the planting of more than a million trees in Nebraska; and WHEREAS, Arbor Day is now observed throughout the nation and world; and WHEREAS, trees can reduce the erosion of topsoil, cut heating and cooling costs, moderate the temperature, clean the air, produce oxygen and provide habitat for wildlife; and WHEREAS, the Town of Leesburg has been recognized as a Tree City USA by the National Arbor Day Foundation for six consecutive years and desires to continue its tree planting ways: THEREFORE, RESOLVED by the Council of the Town of Leesburg in Virginia as follows: April 22 is hereby proclaimed as the official Arbor Day of the Town of Leesburg for 1995.
