U.S. Postal Service to Hold Public Input Meeting on Possible
Closure of Downtown Leesburg Post Office on Wednesday,
November 9, 2011
Leesburg, VA (November 1, 2011) – The United States Postal Service will hold a public input
session on the possible closure of the downtown Leesburg post office at 7:00 p.m. on
Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at Rust Library (380 Old Waterford Road, Leesburg, VA 20176).
In July 2011, the U.S. Postal Service announced plans to evaluate 3,700 branch locations
throughout the country for possible closure to save money. The downtown Leesburg post
office, located at 15 East Market Street, is among the branches under scrutiny. According to
the postal service, the downtown Leesburg post office is under consideration for closure due to
the proximity of alternate locations that provide mailing services and products, including the
main Leesburg post office on Catoctin Circle.
The postal service is in the process of conducting a discontinuance feasibility study. In October,
a customer survey and notice of the November 9th public meeting was distributed to all box
customers of the downtown Leesburg post office and to all postal delivery addresses within the
20176 zip code. In addition, survey forms are available to walk-in customers at the downtown
Leesburg post office.
Customers of the downtown Leesburg post office are encouraged to participate in the customer
survey and attend the public meeting on Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at Rust Library. For
more information, contact postal service representatives at 540-667-3352.
