HomeMy Public PortalAboutFinal Best Management Practices Summary-SB U-10SUMMARY OF BEST MANAGEMENT PRACTICES – SPRINGBANK UNIT 10
The proposed Springbank Unit 10 development has been designed to maximize the potential for
protecting the water quality of stormwater runoff from the site. The planned use lends itself
specifically well for this intent by creating smaller residential lots and leaving more combined open
space. Below is a list of specific best management practice designs/devices utilized with the
proposed within the proposed development:
• Large areas of open space, especially along the western side of the site along Drauden
Road. Much of this area will be primarily undisturbed except for the addition of a walking
path and stabilizing the previously farmed ground with permanent vegetative control.
• Shallow, dry bottom detention facility at the southwest corner to reduce stormwater runoff
exiting the site from the western open spaces. Basin will be seeded with native prairie
style plantings.
• Landscape buffers surrounding property to provide screening opportunities as well as
provide filter strip potential for entering off-site runoff.
• Long flow paths through rear yard swales for flows above the storm sewer capacity to
provide additional filtration of runoff prior to entering the stormwater management facilities.
• Wetland bottom detention facilities that provide filtration to the stormwater runoff prior to
discharge.
• Sedimentation basins at the entrance to the detention facilities to remove sediment to
stormwater prior to site discharge.
• Large area of site along the DuPage River left undisturbed to preserve the existing banks
with the existing trees and vegetation.
• Basin discharges along DuPage River portion of site occurring on long, flat, rip-rap lined
channels to reduce outflow velocity and minimize bank erosion.
