HomeMy Public PortalAboutResolutions-2009-04RESOLUTION 2009-04 A RESOLUTION CALLING FOR A PUBLIC REFEREDUM TO AUTHORIZE THE IMPOSITION OF A LOCAL SALE AND SERVICE TAX IN THE CITY OF TIFFIN, IOWA AT THE RATE OF 1% WHEREAS, Chapter 422B of the Code of Iowa authorizes the imposition of certain local option taxes after an election in which the simple majority. of the electors vote in the, affirmative; and WHEREAS, The City Council of the City of Tiffin declares its intent to participate in a special county -wide election for the purpose of permitting the electorate to pass upon the proposition of imposing a one percent (1 %) sales and service tax for the City of Tiffin according to Chapter 422B. 1.3.b of the Iowa Code. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, By the City Council of the City of Tiffin, Iowa; SECTION 1. The City Council of Tiffin, Iowa requests the County Commissioner of Elections to submit to the voters in Johnson County a proposition authorizing of a local sales and service tax in the City of Tiffin -at one percent (1 "To authorize the imposition of a local sale and service tax in the City of Tiffin, Johnson County, Iowa, at the rate of one percent (1 %) to be effective the earliest calendar quarter." SECTION 2. The revenues from the local option sales and service are to be allocated in the City of Tiffin as follows: 0% Property Tax Relief 25% Park and Recreation Improvements 75% The specific purposes for which the revenues shall otherwise be expended are: Community improvements to include sidewalk, street, public safety, water and sewer improvements and any other lawful purposes of the City of Tiffin. SECTION 3. That the City Clerk is hereby authorized and directed to provide a copy of this resolution to the County commissioner of Elections of Johnson County and to the Board of Supervisors of Johnson County. , Passed and approved this 11th day of February 2009. s Motion made by Councilperson Chris Ball, seconded by Councilperson Mark Petersen.
