Reports.
Public Works Director Prouse suggested the Council adopt the Uniform Plumbing Code and
American Water Works Association Codes for the Cross Connection Plan. The Director
suggested that by adopting the existing plans it would save time as opposed to creating a new
plan.
Mayor Andersen agreed.
Council member Geray also agreed and asked for advice regarding approaching homeowners
who were over watering their lawns and not following the conservation suggestions.
Mayor Andersen suggested adding a bill stuffer information sheet to the water bill and contacting
Chief Basaraba so he can help educate the homeowner.
Director Prouse said an Iona resident was using his water rights and drilling a private well for
emergency backup reasons. The Director said the Department of Environmental Quality allowed
the activity to take place. However, Prouse recommended the City adopt an ordinance to not
allow the activity because of possible cross connection contamination issues.
Mayor Andersen said he could understand why some homeowners would want to use their water
rights for such a purpose. The Mayor said the City had considered drilling a backup well for the
same purpose.
The Mayor said the way the ordinance currently read, it did not allow homeowners to own and
operate private wells. For example, if the City annexed a property and the property had an active
well, the homeowners were required to abandon the well and use City water.
Director Prouse also reported that he would be using the County's right-of-way mower to cut the
weeds in the right -of ways within Iona.
Clerk Keyes, no report.
Treasurer Sullivan reported the City would need to purchase more memory for the computer
before the new utility software was installed.
Chief Basaraba suggested the City purchase a public notification software program that would
allow the City to call certain or all residents to inform them of City related issues such as water
main repair or police issues. The software cost was $900 per year and the system sign-up would
be voluntary for the residents.
President Case reported that the museum porch was finished and they were working on adding a
deck and steps.
Case also said the City parks were looking good and he liked the Veteran's Monument landing.
Case asked if the concrete on the stairs at the Community Center had a warrantee. Mayor
Andersen said it did for one year.
Council member Geray asked if he should continue with the Iona's Got Talent idea since only
four people had signed -up. The Council decided to wait until July 3rd and if there were not
additional registrants the City would cancel the event.
Meeting adjourned 6:55 p.m.
