PARKS AND RECREATION BOARD
Regular meeting
7 p.m. April 18, 2023
Board Meeting Room of Town Hall Annex, 105 E. Corbin St.
Present: Chair Cole Kenworthy, Vice Chair Richard von Furstenberg,
Commissioner Robb English, Wendy Kuhn, Adam McGovern,
Alyse Polly, David Weinberg and Paul Weinberg
Absent: None
Staff: Public Space and Sustainability Manager Stephanie Trueblood
1. Call to order and confirmation of quorum
Chair Cole Kenworthy called the meeting to order at 7 p.m. Public Space and Sustainability Manager
Stephanie Trueblood called the roll and noted there was a quorum present.
2. Agenda changes and approval
No changes were made.
Motion: Wendy Kuhn moved to approve the agenda as amended. Vice Chair Richard von Furstenberg
seconded.
Vote: 8-0.
3. Minutes review and approval
Minutes from regular meeting on Feb. 21, 2023, and March 21, 2023
Motion: Member Wendy Kuhn moved to approve the minutes from Feb. 21, 2023, and March 21, 2023,
with a change to reflect that no members were absent in March. Member Richard von
Furstenberg seconded.
Vote: 8-0
4. Discussion items
A. Receive update on Ridgewalk Greenway Study
Neil Dean, Transportation Design Engineer from Summit Design and Engineering, the lead consultant for the
study, gave an overview of the Ridgewalk Greenway Feasibility Study planning process and results with
particular attention paid to the alignment of the trail in the section between Exchange Club Lane and the train
station site as well as the section across I-85 connecting to Beckett’s Ridge Drive.
Members asked questions about the findings thus far and shared thoughts on the project and results.
No action was taken.

A. Board of Commissioners: Robb English
English gave a brief report and reminded board about State of the Town Address.
B. Planning Board: Alyse Polly
Polly gave a brief report and explained that the public hearing for the Comprehensive Sustainability Plan is on
Thursday.
C. Intergovernmental Parks Work Group: Stephanie Trueblood
Trueblood noted that the group discussed Year of the Trail activities and artificial turf fields at Cedar Falls Park
in Chapel Hill
6. Park steward reports
Board members reported on the conditions of the parks for which they serve as stewards. Trueblood noted
any small repairs that needed attention and gave brief reports on small repairs that had been made since the
previous meeting.
7. Staff updates
Trueblood provided updates that included:
• Ridgewalk Greenway Feasibility Study and Churton Street Multimodal Corridor Study
• Skate Spot in Cates Creek Park
• Comprehensive Sustainability Plan
• Recent repairs in parks
8. Adjournment
Motion: English moved to adjourn the meeting at 8:45 p.m. Member Kuhn seconded.
