HomeMy Public PortalAboutTOL PR 2011-11-15 Freeze Your Gizzard Town of Leesburg News Release For Immediate Release Leesburg Hosts 9th Annual “Freeze Your Gizzard” 5K Cross Country Race and 1 Mile Fun Run on November 19, 2011 Leesburg, VA (November 15, 2011) – Celebrate Thanksgiving a little early this year and take the opportunity to have fun, exercise, and perhaps win a turkey as you freeze your gizzard at Ida Lee Park! The Town of Leesburg Parks and Recreation Department, in partnership with Loudoun Interfaith Relief, is hosting the 9th Annual Freeze Your Gizzard Cross Country 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run on Saturday, November 19, 2011. Runners of all skill level are invited to join us for this cross country style race and all ages are welcome. The race will begin at 9:00 am in the front field of Ida Lee Park. The entry fee for pre- registration is $20.00 for the 5K, $10.00 for the 1 mile, plus 2 cans of food to be brought the day of the event. Day-of-event registration is also available beginning at 7:00 am with $25 for the 5K and $15 for the 1 mile, plus 2 cans of food. Canned food will be donated to Loudoun Interfaith Relief’s food bank. A record breaking 2,000+ lbs of food was raised at last year’s race. The race will be timed by Potomac River Running using the IPICO timing system, a state-of-the- art timing system used in top races nationwide. Pre-registration can be done at the Ida Lee Park Recreation Center or registration can be completed on-line at www.prraces.com. On-line registration will be available until November 16, 2011. Registered 5K runners will receive a long-sleeve commemorative T-shirt and 1 mile runners will receive a race medal. Refreshments for all runners will be provided following the race. Thanksgiving-themed prizes will be awarded to the first, second, and third place male and (more) TOL PR 2011-11-15 Freeze Your Gizzard race Page 2 female finishers of the 5K for each age category. Age categories are 14 & under, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, and 60 & over. Door prizes will also be awarded following the race. Dogs, wagons and strollers are not permitted on the course. The race will start and finish at the Gazebo in the front field of Ida Lee Park. Please follow parking signs for the event, as the parking lot can be accessed only from Route 15 Business (North King Street), not through Ida Lee Drive.
