Town Submits Results of Referendum to Move Town Elections
from May to November to Department of Justice
Leesburg, VA (November 22, 2011) – On November 8, 2011, a referendum to move Town of
Leesburg elections from even-numbered years in May to even-numbered years in November
was passed by Leesburg voters. Before the new election date can take effect, the Town of
Leesburg is required to submit the change to the Department of Justice in order to comply with
the Voting Rights Act.
On November 22, 2011, Leesburg Town Attorney’s office submitted the results of the
referendum to the Department of Justice for pre-clearance under Section 5 of the Voting Rights
Act. A complete copy of the submission is available for public inspection at the Office of the
Town Attorney, located in the Leesburg Town Hall, at 25 West Market Street, Leesburg,
Virginia, during normal business hours (Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.). A copy of the
submission is also available for download on the Town of Leesburg website at
www.leesburgva.gov.
The public is invited to make comments on the proposed amendment of the Town election date
to the U.S. Attorney General and/or the Department of Justice at the following addresses:
