The following information regarding an application for demolition is being submitted for your
review and comments in accordance with the requirements of the demolition ordinance.

Section 8- 32 of the City Code provides the Historic Preservation Commission with 60 days to review
demolition application(s) affecting structures which are 50 years of age or older. Exterior & interior
color photographs and a statement as to why the property cannot be rehabilitated or restored are required
to be submitted with the demolition permit application. A negative response by the Historic Preservation
Commission is not grounds for denying a demolition permit.
Application to the Historic Preservation Commission can take place prior to completion of the rest of the
Demolition Permit Application.

8. If answers to Questions 2, 3 or 4 are "Yes," please provide a statement addressing why the property
cannot be rehabilitated with a reasonable economic return to the owner:
Research was completed for the structures located at 1106, 1200 Myrtle Avenue and 1412, 1414 Swifts
Highway and indicate the dates of construction are 1930, 1930, 1954 and 1954 respectively per the
City/County GIS website. The structures located at 1106 and 1200 Myrtle Avenue have seen limited
maintenance/up keep in recent years with deterioration evident on the interior and exterior. The
structure at 1106 and 1200 Myrtle were most recently used as rental properties, as evident by the
division of the structures into separate living units. It is also believed that at one time the structure at
1200 Myrtle housed Catholic priests. The structure located at 1412 and 1414 Swifts Highway is a visibly
newer structure; however, not without their deficiencies.
As stated previously, the structures are being demolished for the purpose of constructing a new sports
facility for Helias Catholic High School. The properties were purchased for the sole purpose of utilizing
the ground as part of the overall sports complex development. Rehabilitation or restoration of these
structures will ultimately limit the usability of the ground in accordance with the Helias Catholic Facilities
Master Plan. Residential properties are not a compatible use with the high school and sports complex.
