Corbin St. Present: Chair Matt Hughes, Dani Black and Kim Tesoro Staff: Planning and Economic Development Manager Shannan Campbell 1. Call to order Chair Matt Hughes called the meeting to order at 5:44 p.m. Planning and Economic Development Manager Shannan Campbell confirmed the presence of a quorum. 2. Agenda changes and approval There were no changes. Motion: Member Kim Tesoro moved to approve the agenda as presented. Member Dani Black seconded. Vote: 3-0. 3. Minutes review and approval Minutes from regular meeting on Jan. 6, 2022 Motion: Black moved approval of the Jan. 6, 2022, minutes as submitted. Tesoro seconded. Vote: 3-0 4. Discussion/action items A. FY23 draft budget and budget public hearing reminders Campbell noted the draft budget was in the agenda packet and that the projected revenue is $95,000 for FY23. She noted that in recent years the projected revenue has been $70,000. The opening of The Colonial Inn and a strong short term rental market have led to the revenue increase. The board reviewed the budget and again expressed concern about the high audit costs. B. FY22 Tourism Development Authority marketing 1. “Heads in Beds” focused campaign ideas/brainstorming There was interest in pursuing the markets that were discussed at the January meeting. Also interest in pursuing print materials in major publications such as Our State magazine, Garden and Gun, and targeting the wedding industry. Dani Black indicated she would follow up with Campbell on some ideas for good wedding market placement. 2. Short-term rentals rack card, materials and holders There was interest in getting racks for tourism materials at Duke and UNC hospital, if possible. TOURISM DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY MINUTES | 2 of 2 C. Performance venue feasibility next steps The board said they want to reach as many stakeholders as possible and would like to review the survey questions that Katie Murray at OC Arts Commission is working on before the survey is sent out. 5. Monthly reports A. Staff report and occupancy tax revenues reports Campbell noted occupancy tax revenues continue to be strong. The Burwell School Historic Site is offering a raffle for a historic Hillsborough weekend with a stay at a downtown Airbnb, dinner, drinks and private tours. She would like to see other raffles like this. B. Board comments There was none. 6.
