Reports:
Public Works
Pioneer Park: Public Works Director Prouse passed out bids for paving the parking lot at
Pioneer Park. The bids were at $37,000; $47,000; and he was waiting for one other. Director
Prouse proposed doing the pit run and 3/4 sidewalk this year and paving next year. There could
possibly be grant money.
Emergency Well: Director Prouse stated the well has been drilled and he is still waiting for the
hand pump. DEQ only needs to test for total coliform, E. coli bacteria and nitrates once a year.
Hydrants: Director Prouse informed Council that hydrants will be flushed in October and
testing will be done prior to flushing.
Dump Truck: Director Prouse stated that the dump/snow truck has been delivered to the
supplier for installation of the sander and plow and should be delivered to the City by the end of
October.
Police
Hazard Operation and Mitigation Plan: Police Chief Basaraba informed Council that Tom
Lenderink from the Bureau of Homeland Security would come in to talk about the Hazard
Operation and Mitigation Plan. Chief Basaraba stated he would attend training for
administration of this plan.
Crime Log: Chief Basaraba reported burglaries, noise exposure and moving violations were
down this summer compared to last summer. He attributes this to several things such as
replacement of street lights, park closure from 12:00 am to 5:00 am and patrolling.
Rewards Program: Chief Basaraba handed out candy and talked about wearing your seatbelt
on the first day of school at Iona Elementary. Chief Basaraba has been handing out rewards
(Jamba Juice/Cold Stone coupons) to people who are being good citizens (following the rules).
October Carnival: Chief Basaraba reported that he will be participating in the Iona Elementary
October Carnival.
Council
Annexation: Council President Case reported that Rockwell Development would like to
develop the property West of Crowley Rd/South of Iona Rd. The City wants to annex this
property into City limits but would like the consent of two property owners because the property
needs to be contiguous in order to annex the development.
Historical Committee: No report.
Library: Council Member Price spoke with Alesia Schwieder, Friends of the Iona Library
President, who stated that the Library would be receiving CHC Grant Money to replace the book
shelves in the children's area and would like to use the City's Budgeted Monies to replace the
carpet in the children's area when the book shelves are ready to be installed.
TRPTA: Council Member Price reported that if we were to make Pioneer Park a Park & Ride
(pickup three times a day) for TRPTA access we could receive Federal Funding of 80% for the
paving which TRPTA would ask for in return to help them out and serve the people in the
Community. Council Member Price stated the results of the TRPTA Survey which indicated
76% of respondents were in favor of the bus system and 6% were opposed.
Veteran's Day: Council Member Geray reported that he would be meeting with Dixie Hunting
to ask about speakers and singers for the Veteran's Day Program scheduled for Sunday,
November 11th with Monday, November 12th for a backup date.
