HomeMy Public PortalAbout1997_02_25_R052 The Town of Leesburg, Virginia PRESENTED Februa ,fy 25, 1997 RESOLUTION NO. 97-52 ADOPTED February 25, 1997 A RESOLUTION: AUTHORIZING THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE (USDA) TO TRAP AND RELOCATE VULTURES IN LEESBURG AND MAKING AN APPROPRIATION WHEREAS, Leesburg has been the site of vulture roosts for several years; and WHEREAS, the town's police department has worked with the USDA for two years and has exhausted remedies, including sound repellents and visual repellents, to remove the vultures from northwest Leesburg; and WHEREAS, the problems caused by the vulture roosts such as odor, tree destruction and propmty damage persist; and WHEREAS, on January 30, 1997, the USDA offered two additional options to solve the problem; and WHEREAS, the Finance Committee on February 18, 1997, recommended the option of trapping and relocating the vultures for a cost of $8,003.00 THEREFORE, RESOLVED by the Council of the Town of Leesburg in Virginia as follows: SECTION I. The town manager is hereby authorized to execute an agreement with the USDA to trap and relocate the vultures in nmthwest Leesburg. SECTION II. An appropriation of $8,003 is hereby authorized from the unappropriated general fund balance for the purpose of funding the removal of the vultures. SECTION III.
