JUNE 6,1961
Meeting called to order at $ Pk by Mayor Scott.
Council members present, Scott, Arens, Gertz and Roehl, Absent
Winterhalter. The minutes of the regular meeting of May 2,1961
were read. Motion by Herbert Arens to accept minutes as read, second
by Arthur Gertz, Motion carried.
Recommendation from Mayor Scott that Lakeview dance permit not be
renewed was read. Police report of fight of May 27 at Lakeview was
read. Raymond Lenzen operatthr of Lakeview dance hall addresed the
council stateing that he was tryin his best to clean up the trouble
at his dance hall, he told the council that he believed most of the
trouble came from people who were following his dance band and that
he has changed bands to more old time music also that he does not
admit boys under 21 and girls under 18. Clarence Rachael stated
that he beleived Lenzen should be givean a chance to clean up his
place. Geprge Pettelkow stated that since the bands were changed the
tkough gangs were not coming to the dance. Pat Scanlon, 685324516
Police cheif from Loretto reported that while he was working as a
bouncer there was only routine trouble until a gang from St Louis Park
moved out there, he offered no recommendation either way, Ciivin
Thell, police officer offered no remommedation eiter way.
A motion by Arthur Gertz that the council review the Dance hall permit
of Raymond Lenzen at the 1st meeting in July, Second by Herbert Arens,
Motion carried. Mayor Scott recommended to Mr. Lenzen that he place
more lights in the dance hall and parking lot and allow no beer bottles
on the dance floor.
George Pettelkow informed the council that there were out houses
placed to close to property lines. aIviotion by Herbert Arens to
instruct the building inspector to check on location of certain out
houses in the Independence beach plat. Second by R Roehl, Motion
carried.
Ed Hall appeared to complain of a house to closet to his line.
Motion by Robert Roehl to check the old records to find out when the
building permit was issued and proceed from there. Second by Herb
Arens, Motion carried.
Mr. Clarence Rachel spoke in behalf of black topping the main road
into the beach area. Mr. J V Gleason gave the councin several estimated
costs of Aid deferant types of jobs which could be used, as follow;;
1 mile of dust coat $1300.00 , Penetrating coat $2800., Travel plant
mix 3250.00, 2 coat travel pant mix $4290.00, the later being aim
recommended as the best job for the cost. The estimated cost of grading
the road was $200.00. After considerable discussion Mr Rachel
appointed Ray Lenzen, Mrs. Ruter, Nirw Ray Bosch and Art Gertz to
serce with him as a committee to petition the land owners on the
street.
Mrs. Ray Bosch requested the council to consider street lites in
the beach area.
Mr. Friedhiem requested slow signs and stmp sign on the Faue road.
Motion by Arthur Gertz to erect signs at Faue road and # 9 and at
the American Legion Hall in Hamel, second by Herbert Arens, Motion carrie
Meeting was set for June 21st at $ PM at the Village Hall for police
department, civet defense and fire department.
Leon Warner appeared with request to council to consider locations
of homes being built on large tracts of land. Motion by Herbert Arens
that the clerk notify John Luby that in the event he sells the home
he is now building he will have to sell either 2i acres or plat part
of his land. Second by Arthur Gertz, Motion carried.
Mrs Lambert Berry asked the council if Mr. Subic should sell his
home would the buyer be held to the restriction in the leeter he
recieved from the council. She was advised gist thyy would.
Motion by Robert Roehl to grant beer, cigereete and bingo permits to
the Hamel Dairy Days Committee for June 16-17 and 1$ without charge.
Second by Arthur Gertt. Motion carried.

Motion by Herbert A"end to grant Alwx MilleP$an on and Off sale liquor
liscense, second by Arthur Gertz, Motion carried all yes.
Motion by Art Gertz to Grant Berndard Leuer an off sale liquor liscense
Second by Herb Arens, Morion carried, all yes
Motion by Robert Roehl to grant Raymond Lenzen an off sale liquor
liscense, second by Herb Arens, Motion carried. all yes.
Motion by Herb Arens to grant Laura Molitor and Un and Off sale liquor
liscense, second by Arthur Gertz, motion carried all yes
Motion by Arthur Gertz to grant Medina Recreations Inc an on and off
sale liquor liscense, second by Robert Roehl, motion tarred, all yes.

Minutes June 6 meeting continued:
Herbert Peery, village auditor remommended the village purchase
$5000.00 in U S Bonds for 6 months investment. Motion by Arthur
Gertz to purchase %5000.00 of U S bonds for a 6 month term,
second by Herbert Arens, Motion carried.
Motion by Herbert Arens to let bids for rental of read equipment
and open bids on July 5th, at 8 P.ivi. Second by Arthur Gertz,
motion carried.
ivlotion by Herbert Arens to have th e enxgineer meet with the
people mn the Faue road and # 9 to discuss and advise on the
drainage problems. Second by Arthur Gertz, I4lotion carried.
Order checks issued $2230.38 Payroll checks issued p543.75
Receipts $3414.64.
Motion by Arthur Gertz to adjourn this meeting until 8PM on
June 20,1961. Second by Herbert Arens, Notion carried.

All council members were presaat.
John Sotzum presented plans of a proposed 1plat of Francis Sourum
property, located in industrial zone. Motion by Harold Winterhalter
to request the planning commission to hold a public hearing to
arezone the land west ofroad between # 9 and Soo Line
railroad to residential, ecor d`by Herb Arens, Motion carried.
John Aalderks appeard with a request to locate a garage on his lot
within 2 feet of his property line, he presented a letter from
Daonald Dykhoff thw owner to the adjoining property givining his
permission to build the garage within 2 feet of his 2 line.
Motion by Arthur Gertz to give John Aalderks permission to build
his garage within 2 feet of Dykhoff property line, second by Harold
Winterhalter, Motion carried.
John Luby appeared before the council stating he is building a home
with 1700 sg feet, he does not have the lot divieded as yet, he
may sell this house or he may keep it for hisown use. He was told
that he would have to sell at least 2i acres if he does not plat
M-. Luby stated he had no objections to platting a portion of his land.
A petition by the reseolents of the Independence Beach plat with 101
signatures , to have the roads of the Independence beach plat
surfaced with plant surfacing similar to that applied by the County
on County Highway # 24, was presented to the council.
Arthur Gertz reported that the sewage condition of several of the
Beach residents have been corrected.
illard Miller stated he will correct his sewage condition next week.
motion by Harold Winterhalter to appoint Donald Dressel and Raymond
Bosch Asst. Civel Defance directors, second by Herb Arens, Motion
carried.
Mayor Scott reported there has been no trouble at Lakeview dance
hall sdnce last meeting. Motion by Arthur Gertz to grant Raymond
enzen a special permit for 410.00 for July 1,1961 only, second by
Herb arens, Motion carried.
Motion by Herb Arens to Grant Norman VanSloun a Dance permit as
per application, second by Harold Winterhalter, motion carried.
Motion by Herb Arens to grant Laura Molitor, Fred Glampe, Raymond
Lenzen and Joseph A Raskob on and Off sale beer lieecnse and
John Pohlker post an on sale beer liscense. Second by Arthur Gertz,
motion carried.
The council went on record to enforce the posting of building permits.
Motion by Harold Winterhalter to pay the special assemtnt on parts
of Lots 2 and 3 of Hamel which are villag3 roads, second by Arthur
Gertz, Motion carried.
Motion by Harold Winterhalter to make calcium chloride available
to village residents at a cost of 15 cents per lineal foot of
road per application, plus cost of application, second by Herb Arens,
Notion carried. 14otion to adjourn by Harold Winterhalter, second
by Herb Arens, Motion carried.
