Youth Committee Report. Ericka Gianotto gave an update on the Mayor's Youth
Advisory Council (MYAC). Miss Gianotto said there was a new presidency with the
Council and the organization was losing 25 seniors this year, so the Council was looking
for new members. They were expanding their community exploratory day and looking
for new facilities to tour such as the Idaho Falls Water Treatment and Power Plants. They
were also looking for ideas for fund raising events and were hoping to send three or four
members to the annual Association of Idaho Cities conference.
Mayor Andersen thanked Miss Gianotto for her time and suggested MYAC send
membership applications to the City office.
Emergency Operations Report. The Emergency Operations Report was tabled because
the representative from Whisper Mountain was not present for the meeting.
Reports.
Public Works Supervisor Prouse said the remodel of the bathrooms was 90% finished.
The Supervisor suggested the Council consider not seal coating streets this year and
instead use the money to help cover the cost of the Safe Routes to School path. The
Council liked the idea.
Council member Case said the Historical Society was entertaining the idea of having a
Dutch oven dinner and program during Iona Days as a fund raiser for their museum. The
Council and Mayor liked the idea, and the Historical Society could take care of the events
for Friday evening during Iona Days.
Council member Case also said the Historical Society had planned to remove the front
porch addition on the museum to restore the building to its original look from the front.
They would then replace the soffit and fascia to keep the bats from returning into the attic
before they began any work on the interior.
Council member McArthur reported that the Iona Lion's Club would stay together for
one more year, but they were in desperate need of more members. Council member
McArthur said the Lion's Club was communicating with the necessary people regarding
the law suit filed against them regarding the accident with the children's train ride in
2008 during Iona Days.

Council member Gubler said he had a death in the family and was unable to attend the
Planning and Zoning meeting to discuss the issues Steve Serr brought up during last
month's work meeting.
Mayor Andersen said he would speak with the City Attorney regarding Mr. Serr's
opinion of the City's Codes.
Council member Gubler said land had been secured by the Fire District for a new fire
station. The land was off of Ammon Rd. next to Falls Water and Iona Bonneville Sewer
District.
Council President Shaw said she attended the opening ceremonies for the Bonneville
County Centennial Celebration and was very impressed with the program; she
encouraged everyone to attend the programs scheduled through out the year.
Clerk Keyes said she needed to coordinate with Chief Basaraba and Supervisor Prouse
regarding the Safe Routes to School grant. Clerk Keyes said she was beginning to order
Easter Egg Hunt items and asked if the event would be the same as last year. The Council
agreed it would. Council member McArthur suggested that other cities be contacted to
see if we could have the hunts at the same time to discourage travelers from attending
multiple hunts in cities where they are not citizens. Clerk keys said she could contact
neighboring cities.
Chief Basaraba said he would like to discuss with the Sheriff and the Council the
difference between a flat fee contract with the Sheriff's Department or an agreement that
paid on an as needed basis.
Council member Gubler said the ancillary groups such as SWAT and HAZMAT were
paid through taxes.
Chief Basaraba said he wanted to schedule the Safe Routes to School event on a Saturday
and make it an all day event with safety courses held.

stated the citizens of Iona consumed 5,142,000 gallons of water, which was about 1,273
gallons per minute during January.
