The BREWSTER AGRICULTURAL COMMISSION
Held Thursday, February 23, 2006 at 7:00 p.m.
At the Brewster Town Office Building, 2198 Main Street, Room A
Present: Peter Herrmann, Heather Mangelinkx, John MacLellan, Jack Latham, Julie
Trzcinski, Elizabeth Taylor, Nancy Sheridan and Irene Winkler.
Mr. Hernnann called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. The minutes of the February 9a'
meeting were accepted and approved unanimously by the board.
Mr. Herrmann introduced Irene Winkler from the US Dept of Agriculture based in W.
Wareham with the Pilgrim Resource Conservation & Development Area Council. She is
involved with helping Agricultural Commissions getting set up and helps in the following
areas:
- Grant Writing
- Establish the economic value of farms in town
- Farmland protection
- Community education
- Helping Agricultural Commissions develop a work plan focusing on one or two-
items and helps put the by-law through town meeting.
Ms. Winkler presented a wealth of information on the various services available for
Agricultural Commissions including contact people. She also brought other towns bylaws
and other goals set by various towns Agricultural Commissions. She also gave each
member a handbook for Agricultural Commissions.
Discussion about who to have come to the March 23`d meeting, an announcement was
sent to each of the boards mailboxes about the meeting and the objectives of the meeting
between Larry McCormick and Victor Staley. It was suggested we have a few issues
where there has been conflict to discuss including:
- Contiguous land
-Zoning
- Historic District regulations
- Burning
- Aquaculture issues
Mr. Hemnann reported that he will not be available for the March 9d' meeting -other
members also were unsure if they would be available so that meeting will be cancelled. If
another meeting is necessary before the March 23rd meeting that will be announced.
