An open Letter to the: Honorable Mayor and Honorable Members of the City of
Jefferson, City Council:
CC: City of Jefferson involved staff, and others.
Approve the Truman Hotel TIF Proposal #2
Dear Friends:
First option (1) Repeal all existing Tax Increment Financing (TIF) authorities, (2)
place a prohibition on new TIF assistance for twenty-five years, and (3)
revise/amend existing laws and ordinances so that personal and real property held
by the Jefferson City School Board will be taxed at the same rate as private
businesses. Thus, the additional income to the City Government can justify
reduction of the tax charge to existing business. This reductions of tax burden to
business can replace the need for TIF.
While the "First option" above is doable it probably should be eliminated from
consideration as the "Second option" below is better as it addresses real needs,
matched with real resources, and authority to do the job.
Second (preferred) option Using our existing system, you can lead with action
based on a vision of support for a neater, cleaner, healthier, safer, and more
prosperous city by SUPPORTING AND USING YOUR VOTE TO APPROVE THE TIF TO
BE USED IN SOUTH CENTRAL JEFFERSON CITY. The YES vote plea is filled with
sincerity, feelings of love for our city and people, and a hope for long term benefits.
