HomeMy Public PortalAboutAgriculture Commission -- 2006-10-02 MinutesMINUTES of the MEETING of The BREWSTER AGRICULTURAL COMr~QSSION Held Monday, October 2, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. At the Brewster Town Office Building, 2198 Main Street, Room B Present: Peter Herrmann, Heather Mangelinkx, Dave Carlson, Jack Latham, John MacLellan, Julie Trzcinski, Stephen Brown Mr. Hemnann called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m., minutes of the September 14, 2006 meeting were accepted and unanimously approved by the board, after correcting Mr. Connally's name from Jack to Joel. Mr. Herrmann brought to discussion the objections of the Finance Committee to accepting the by-law, what is the need for the law, objections to farms etc. Discussion about getting more information to the public about the farms on the cape and the need to have all the boards of the town supporting us. It was discussed that we should finish locating the farms on the map and to take the time to go to the other committees (Board of Health, Conservation, Planning Board) to get their support. A vote was taken to hold off presenting the by-law on the fall town warrant until we can promote and educate the public to farming on Cape Cod. Jack Latham motioned to table the by-law on town warrant and Jack MacLellan seconded it -all voted to agree to hold off on this fall's town meeting. Mr. Carlson motioned we take town council's advise on including the wording they suggested in Section 1 of the by-law, Mr. Latham seconded and all voted in favor of accepting town council's wording. Washington Chase has taken his name offthe Agricultural Commission as an alternate member so we agreed to recommend Rebecca Howes to the selectmen to take his place. Heather Mangelinkx will send an email to Doreen at the selectmen's office that we are withdrawing the by-law for this town warrant and we are recommending Ms. Howes for a membership on the committee. The minutes of the May 18, 2006 and June 22, 2006 manure management meetings were accepted and unanimously approved by the board. Mr. Brown brought to discussion his building addition we suggested he review Chapter 40A of the laws for agriculture and apply for an agricultural exemption.
