SPECIAL MEETING
BOARD OF DIRECTORS
June 21, 1995
MINUTES
I. ROLL CALL
President P. Siemens called the Special Meeting to order at 7:07 P.M.
Members Present: Pete Siemens, Mary Davey, Teena Henshaw, Nonette Hanko, Betsy Crowder,
and Wim de Wit.
Personnel Present: Craig Britton, Jean Fiddes, and Sue Schectman. S. Schectman was present
for only the Closed Session portion of the meeting.
II. CLOSED SESSION
P. Siemens stated that the Board would be meeting in Closed Session for the purpose of
discussing Closed Session agenda item number one.
The Board recessed to Closed Session at 7:08 P.M. The Board adjourned the Special Meeting
Closed Session at 7:25 P.M. and reconvened for the Special Meeting at 7:35 P.M.
IIL ORAL COMMUNICATIONS
There were no oral communications.
IV. ADOPTION OF AGENDA
Motion: T. Henshaw moved that the Board adopt the agenda. M. Davey seconded the motion.
The motion passed 6 to 0.
V. WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS
There were no written communications.
VI. BOARD BUSINESS
A. Initial Interviews of Applicants for the Position of Director - Ward 4
J. Fiddes stated that Mr. Wun Chiou had withdrawn his application. P. Siemens reviewed
the process to be used for the initial interviews. J. Fiddes reviewed the specific procedure
to be used for the opening statements by the candidates.
The order of opening statements was as follows:

2. William Burks

The Board recessed for a break at 8:30 P.M. The meeting reconvened at 8:40 P.M.
There was a 30 minute round robin questioning of the applicants by the Board.
The order of final statements was as follows:
1. William Burks
2. David Smernoff
3. Tom Jones
4. Howard Wilshire
5. John Brazil
6. Norman Shaskey
The results of the voting to select the final candidates were as follows:
Ballot #1
John Brazil 6 votes
William Burks 4 votes
Tom Jones 1 vote
Norman Shaskey 1 vote
David Smernoff 6 votes
Howard Wilshire 5 votes
Motion: T. Henshaw moved that the four top finalists participate in the second round of
interviews. M. Davey seconded the motion. The motion passed 6 to 0.
The members of the Board thanked all the candidates for their interest and participation in
the process. C. Britton stated that Mr. Wun Chiou, Sr. had withdrawn his application
because of a potential conflict of interest, and his desire to continue donating to the District
a "homepage" on the Internet computer network.
VII. ADJOURNMENT
The Special Meeting was adjourned at 9:30 P.M.
