PLANNING BOARD
June 26, 2001
PRESENT: Ed Gill (Chair), Jim Boericke, Joel Brinkley, Cathy Carroll, David Daniel, Bryant
Warren
PUBLIC: Margaret Hauth
Gill called the meeting to order at 6:40 PM.
ITEM #3: The members reviewed the memo and table describing the growth management tools
studied. They agreed that the report was ready to be forwarded to the Town Board.
Hauth suggested holding for an agenda to wasn't too full of weighty issues so it
would receive full consideration and the members agreed.
ITEM #4: Hauth said she received the letter in the agenda packet from a concerned citizen and
sent it to members for discussion. The members discussed the letter, trying to
understand the citizen's complaint. They agreed that it sounded like the owner had a
difficulty with utility lines crossing his property, maybe without an easement. The
members agreed that this was not a topic they wanted to take up, as it was more a
private property/trespass issue than planning.
ITEM #5: Hauth introduced the concept of creating a collector street plan for Hillsborough.
She said the packet contained a map prepared jointly by Durham and Raleigh to
address their common borders. She said this would be a plan of roads that would
generally be local roads, constructed by developers rather than major roads
constructed by NCDOT. She said that it might help with some of the connectivity
issues the board has struggled with. She said she would have to do further research
to know what the review and involvement process would be. The members
expressed their interest in this plan and indicated it was a priority topic.
Gill adjourned the meeting at 7:15 PM.
Respectfully submitted,
