Mayor's Youth Advisory Council gave their report. MYAC was busy arranging summer camp
activities for at risk youth in the Idaho Falls area and recruiting new members for the Council.
TRPTA representative was not present. Jane Shaw said she had attended a few meetings but was
not recognized by the group and felt her time was wasted. Shaw said she would try to attend
meetings quarterly.
Property Maintenance Code. The code was discussed and it was still unclear to the Council
what the purpose of the code was. Mayor Andersen and President Shaw recommended the
building inspector review the code and advise the Council.
Title 11 Discussion. The Council looked over the changes to Title 11 that Planning and Zoning
recommended. The Council was in favor of the ideas the Planning and Zoning Commission had
for the Title.
Reports
Public Works Supervisor Prouse sent a written report that stated the SR2S project was
approximately 75% complete. After final compaction tests were passed and if the weather stayed
mostly dry, the asphalt should be laid down before the end of next week at the latest. Most of the
signage was complete. The flashing school zone signs would not be installed until school was out
for the summer. Apparently, Idaho Traffic Safety had not received the signs yet so the City
would place temporary signs defining the new school zone boundaries.
There were several areas around town that had been saw cut and prepped for asphalt repair.
These areas will be patched before the end of next week.
Regarding the David Bigelow property: Prouse said the City Attorney had not heard from Mr.
Bigelow or his attorney for approximately 3 weeks. Attorney Storer agreed to contact Mr.
Bigelow and would inform Prouse of any progress that has been made.
Council Member Case said the Historical Society was in charge of the dinner and entertainment
for Friday's events during Iona Days. Case said the Historical Society was asking the City to
help remove two dead trees on the museum property. The Council said they would ask
Supervisor Prouse to take care of the trees.
Case recommended new dog clean-up bags for the park.
1
Case asked the City if they would help pay for the cost of the material for the soffit and fascia for
the museum. The Council said they could help with a portion of the cost.
Case said a citizen contacted him and was concerned about the school bus that was going down
Walker Ave. and stopping at the day care. The citizen said there was not enough room for the
bus and it was tearing up the dirt road. Chief Basaraba said he would call the school district and
talk with transportation.
Council President Shaw, no report.
Council member McArthur said the first statue for the pioneer monument was sculpted and in
the process of being cast. McArthur asked the Council to help pay for the cost of the statue.
McArthur said a citizen asked if the City would allow four -wheelers to be licensed and driven on
the road. Chief Basaraba said that was a bad idea and would open the door for other problems.
Meeting adjourned 6:59 p.m.
