A RESOLUTION:
INITIATING AND REFERRING AN AMENDMENT TO THE LEESBURG
ZONING ORDINANCE TO DEFINE AND PERMIT ASSISTED LIVING
RESIDENCES
WHEREAS, on March 12, 1998, Mr. Richard McClellan sent a letter to Mayor Clem
requesting consideration of an amendment to the Town Zoning Ordinances to permit assisted
living residences within the Town; and
WHEREAS, on March 17, 1998, the Planning and Zoning Committee heard a
presentation by Mr. McClellan and directed staff to investigate the matter; and
WHEREAS, staff met with the petitioner and determined there are several approaches to
take in amending various provisions of the Zoning Ordinance to define, permit and provide
appropriate standards for such uses within the Town; and
WHEREAS, it is appropriate to initiate a Zoning Ordinance Text Amendment for
consideration by the Planing Commission and the Town Council in accordance with the
requirements of state law.
THEREFORE, RESOLVED by the Council of the Town of Leesburg in Virginia that the
staff is hereby authorized to prepare Zoning Text Amendments for consideration by the Planning
Commission and Town Council to define, permit and provide appropriate standards for "assisted
living residences" within the Town.
