HomeMy Public PortalAbout1998_04_21_R100The Town of Leesburg, .rg ma PRESENTED April 21, 1998 RESOLUTION NO. 98- lOO ADOPTED April 21, 1998 A RESOLUTION: TO MAINTAIN SLOT RULE AND PERIMETER RULES AT RONALD REAGAN NATIONAL AIRPORT WHEREAS, the availability of quality domestic and international air service is vital to our key focus industries -- high technology and tourism -- as well as to the region's growing volume of international trade and cargo; and WHEREAS, the Perimeter and High Density Rules at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport have, since 1981, been the foundation to balance the Use of airports serving the National Capital Region; and WHEREAS, these rules prioritize use of the limited downtown facility for the short haul traveler to whom the ground segment is a significant portion of total journey time; and WHEREAS, these rules have resulted in substantial improvements in the ability of many cities to reach the National Capital Region; and WHEREAS, minor changes to the Slot or Perimeter Rule would lead, inevitably, to the Rule's elimination; and WHEREAS, such elimination would lead to a reversal in roles for Washington Dulles International and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. THEREFORE, RESOLVED by the Council of the Town of Leesburg in Virginia as follows: -2- RESOLUTION: RONALD REAGAN NATIONAL AIRPORT The Mayor is hereby authorized to forward a letter to the town's congressional delegation to place a high priority on maintaining the Slot and Perimeter Rules at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.
