AWARDING A CONTRACT FOR REFUSE COLLECTION
WHEREAS, sealed bids were recently received and opened for the town's refuse
collection contract on April 15, 1998; and
WHEREAS, the contract provides for curbside collection and disposal of refuse and
recyclable materials from single-family and townhouse residences, curbside collection and
disposal of refuse from commercial entities, container collection and disposal of refuse from
condominium residences, container collection and disposal of refuse from commercial entities,
collection of recyclable materials from Recycling Drop-Off Centers, collection of refuse from
town-owned waste receptacles at various location, and container collection of refuse from town-
owned facilities; and
WHEREAS, the contract further provides for an initial period of service for one year
beginning July 1, 1998 and provides for renewal for four successive years contingent upon
satisfactory service having been provided by the contractor for the previous period and mutual
agreement to the terms of renewal; and
WHEREAS, escalation of costs to the town at renewal is limited to 5% of the prevailing
contract value; and
WHEREAS, the bids were received and evaluated pursuant to the criteria set forth in the
bid documents and in accordance with the tom Purchasing Policy; and
