International Widows Day
WHEREAS, The City of Bothell benefits greatly from organizations that offer support to
women of all ages, faiths and backgrounds who are seeking comfort during times of
grief after the loss of a significant other; and
WHEREAS, the Modern Widows Club was founded in 2011 as a non-denominational
organization that provides widow mentoring, leadership and empowerment through
member services, active social media sites and an inspirational blog; and
WHEREAS, in 2010, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution to annually
observe International Widows Day on June 23 to give special recognition to the situation
of widows of all ages and across regions and cultures; and
WHEREAS, on June 23, 2022, the Modern Widows Club of the Bothell area will observe
International Widows Day to honor our local community of widows; and
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Mason Thompson. Mayor of the City of Bothell, do hereby
proclaim June 23, 2022 to be “International Widows Day” in the City of Bothell, and I
encourage all to join me in raising awareness of the need for advocacy, mentoring, and
leadership for women in widowhood.
