HomeMy Public PortalAbout2016-08-04 minutesCity of Jefferson Police Personnel Board Minutes—August 4, 2016 The meeting was called to order at 12:15 p.m. Seven persons attended as follows: BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT (4) STAFF PRESENT (3) Mr. Rick Derks (Chair) Sara Trittler, H.R. Ray Bledsoe Lt. Jeff Stiefermann Ms. Lisa Turner (Secretary) Chief Roger Schroeder Mr. Bill Burton (Vice-Chair) BOARD MEMBERS ABSENT (3) Ms. Kelly Dillon Rob Trowbridge Mr. Wesley Dickman Following greetings, roll call was taken. At the beginning of the meeting there was not a quorum so the minutes were not approved initially. New Business Police Officer and Communications Operator Hiring Update Police officer update - Lt. Stiefermann announced that out of the eligible candidates for police officer positions, two of these individuals moved on through the hiring process and had oral interviews with one of them being offered employment. Another candidate from the February testing eligibility list was also interviewed and hired. Communications Operator update – Lt. Stiefermann announced that out of the eligible candidates for communications operator four of these individuals moved on through the hiring process and were offered oral interviews; three of the four were interviewed and one of these candidates was hired. With the new hire, this brings the Communications operators to full staff. Chief Schroeder discussed the possibility of a former police officer being offered re-employment. This individual had contacted the department to inform them that he was interested in returning as a police officer and would like to be considered if a position became available. The Chief explained that it had been a little over one year since this individual had left the department as a police officer in good standing. It was discussed by the Board and a vote was taken to approve the re-hire of this former police officer if a new position is approved in November or when an opening becomes available after a general background check and due diligence with regards to the normal hiring process is completed. It was moved by Derks and seconded by Burton to approve this re-hire. The motion was carried unanimously. The next testing date was discussed and it was decided that at this time we will not be scheduling testing due to having a full staff currently and the candidates on the eligibility list from prior testing. Chief Schroeder will inform Mr. Derks if the need arises for another testing process. Other Business Chief Schroeder discussed the Police Department budget and noted that factual data is available from 2015, and he would know more at the end of year when final data is complete. He announced that included in the proposed budget for the upcoming year was two new positions, a Police Information Manager and an additional Police Officer Position to be assigned to the high school. Approval of May 25, 2016 minutes Mr. Bledsoe arrived for meeting at 12:25, bringing the meeting to quorum. It was moved by Burton and seconded by Turner that the minutes for the May 25, 2016 be approved. The motion was carried unanimously. Next meeting date – October 6, 2016 It was moved by Turner and seconded by Burton for the meeting to adjourn. The meeting was adjourned at 1:08 p.m. Respectfully, Lisa Turner
