Section 106 Review
900 Block Sidewalk Installation, CDBG Funds – this proposal is for the construction of a
sidewalk of Broadway between E Atchison and Filmore. This is the only section of Broadway
between Dunklin and South School without a sidewalk. The lack of a sidewalk creates a danger
for children walking to and from school and attempting to cross the street. The project still
needs the approval of the home owners. Doug Record moved that adequate documentation
has been provided and no historic property will be affected by the project and the request be
approved. Jane Moore seconded the motion. Motion carried.
Demolition Application
a. 1200 Myrtle – The home, built in approximately 1930, is part of the Helias Sports Complex
and needs to be destroyed. Doug Record moved that the demolition will have no adverse
effect and is approved by the Commission. Bill Case seconded the motion. Motion carried.
b. 1414 Swift’s Highway – The home, built in approximately 1954, is part of the Helias Sports
Complex and needs to be destroyed. Mary Schantz moved that the demolition will have no
adverse effect and is approved by the Commission. Jane Moore seconded the motion.
Motion carried.
New Business
Terri Rademan informed the Commission of a program that is operated by the City of Columbia
Historic Preservation Commission whereby volunteers go to home that have been approved for
demolition and remove any items that can be salvaged for the purpose of selling. She is not
aware of the project details and volunteered to send a link to information about the project to
Jayme Abbott for follow up.
