Minutes Cemetery Resource Board Meeting Thursday,September 15,2016 Members Present: Nancy Thompson, Chair Tim Theroff,Co-Chair Beth Bock Pat Rowe Kerr Rebecca Gordon Staff: David Grellner, Environmental Health Manager Don Beck, Property Maintenance Inspector Nancy Thompson called the meeting to order. A quorum was present. The Cemetery Resource Board met on Thursday,September 15,2016 at 10:00 a.m. in the Small Conference Room, lower level of the John G.Christy Municipal Building, 320 E. McCarty Street,Jefferson City, Missouri. Approval of the Minutes: A motion was made for approval of the minutes from the August 18,2016 meeting by Tim Theroff, Rebecca Gordon seconded. Minutes were approved. Old Business: Discussion continued regarding the QR Codes being used to tell the history of individuals in Woodland and Old City Cemeteries. Research is continuing on finding another cemetery that may be using the technology currently. Rebecca Gordon mentioned the idea of having a pod cast linked to websites that could tell an audio story of people interred in the cemeteries. New Business: The subject of GIS mapping of the Old City Cemetery was discussed between board members. Next semester Dr.Tesfaye with Lincoln University is interested in using his students to complete a GIS project in Old City Cemetery. The students will help plot points on grave sites in the cemetery and this information will be used to create a GIS database for locating individuals in the cemetery. A meeting between the City of Jefferson GIS Division and Dr.Tesfaye is scheduled on September 23, 2016 to discuss the project. Tim Theroff talked about how the Daughters of American Revolution record book relates to the plat map. He also discussed how Riverview Cemetery locates their grave sites. The veterans'tombstones were discussed. Tim Theroff spoke to a gentleman to see what items were needed to complete a veteran gravestone application. Rebecca Gordon stated that the docents could help out by filling out the applications for the veterans'gravestones. David Grellner mentioned that Minutes of the City of Jefferson Cemetery Resource Board September 15,2016 page 2 several stumps had been removed from the cemetery grounds and these spots could possibly be used for veteran gravestones. Nancy Thompson mentioned that the grass was in need of attention and a large limb had fallen to the ground in Old City Cemetery. Other Topics and Issues: Rebecca Gordon brought up the subject of raising money and creating a development plan project. She also discussed radio announcements for the cemetery and using the docents to discuss the history of Woodland and Old City Cemetery. The next Cemetery Resource Board Meeting was set for October 20,2016 at 10:00 a.m. in the Small Conference Room at City Hall. Adjournment: With no further business,the meeting was adjourned.
