HomeMy Public PortalAboutMinutes_CCWorkMeeting_10092009CITY COUNCIL WORK MEETING OCTOBER 20, 2009 6:00 P.M. IONA COMMUNITY CENTER PRESENT: Mayor Brad Andersen, Council President Dennis McArthur, Council member Jane Shaw, Council member Dan Gubler, Public Works Supervisor Zech Prouse, Police Chief Shannon Basaraba, City Clerk Robyn Keyes. ABSENT: Council member Steve Elliott VISITORS: None Building rental issues. Mayor Andersen asked the Council to revisit the building rental fees and the rental agreement for the Community Center. The Mayor said the building had experienced increased rentals and with that came increased problems such as; loud music being played and increased cleaning. Mayor Andersen said the City Attorney suggested raising the security/cleaning deposit to $300 to $500. The attorney also said the City was not required to provide the building rental agreement in any other language except English, and that it was up to the renter to provide a translator, if necessary. Council member Gubler suggested that only community members could rent the building. Council member Shaw, and Chief Basaraba agreed that would be a good idea. Clerk Keyes said strict rental guidelines and a higher security deposit may detour those people who might possibly not follow the rules. Code Enforcement. Chief Basaraba said he had contacted the Attorney General's office regarding the difference between an infraction based code book, and the code book the City had. The chief was still waiting to hear back from the Attorney General, but stated that an infraction based code would make his job easier with less paperwork. The Chief would revisit the subject after he received his input from the Attorney General.
