A RESOLUTION: APPROVING COMPREHENSIVE SIGN PLAN APPLICATION #CSP-
99-02 FOR THE POTOMAC STATION MARKETPLACE LOCATED
AT THE INTERSECTION OF BATTLEFIELD PARKWAY AND
POTOMAC STATION DRIVE
WHEREAS, on March 17, 1999, the applicant Potomac Station Retail, L.L.C. applied for
a Comprehensive Sign Package for the Potomac Station Marketplace located at the northeast and
southeast quadrants of the intersection of Battlefield Parkway and Potomac Station Drive; and
WHEREAS, on April 19, 1999, the Board of Architectural Review recommended
approval of the sign package with amendments; and
WHEREAS, the Council has previously determined that the signage for large shopping
centers presents a unique circumstance in which signs that exceed the height, size, locational, area
and number limitations specified in Article 10 of the Leesburg Zoning Ordinance are appropriate
because of the length of road frontage, adjacent traffic speed on major roads, and the size of the
proposed retail center; and
WHEREAS, the proposed signage is compatible with the historic character and aesthetic
concerns of the Town of Leesburg.
THEREFORE, RESOLVED by the Council of the Town of Leesburg in Virginia as
follows:
SECTION I. Authorization for the Potomac Station Marketplace Comprehensive Sign
Package #CSP-99-02 is hereby approved to permit signage larger, taller and more numerous than

permitted by Article 10 (Sign Regulations).

of Architectural Review.
2. The pylon sign on East Market Street shall be no more than 14 feet in height.
3. The three remaining monument signs shall be no more than 13 feet in height.
4. Directional signage is subject to submission of a plan indicating their locations and
numbers for Board of Architectural Review approval.
5. Approval of the buff.background color for the signs is subject to submission of a color
sample for staff approval.
