SPECIAL MEETING
BOARD OF DIRECTORS JOINT MEETING
WITH SANTA CLARA COUNTY PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION
November 5, 1997
MINUTES
I. ROLL CALL
President Mary Davey called the Special Meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.
Members Present: Mary Davey, Ken Nitz, Pete Siemens, David Smernoff, Jed Cyr, Betsy Crowder
(arrived at 7:20 p.m.)
Members Absent: Nonette Hanko
Personnel Present: Craig Britton, Malcolm Smith, Randy Anderson
Others Present: Santa Clara County Parks and Recreation Commission: Tony Look, Bob Levy,
Kitty Monahan, Larry Ames, Jim Foran, Marcine Seid, Paul Romero, Director,
Alan LaFleur, Assistant Director
II. ORAL. COMMUNICATIONS
Vicky Moore, representing Greenbelt Alliance, requested that the Board place on an upcoming agenda an
endorsement of the creation of the Bear Creek Redwoods Regional preserve
Sally Boyd, San Carlos, expressed her disappointment that he eucalyptus trees at Pulgas Ridge Open Space
Preserve were going to be removed as part of the District's exotic plant species control program.
III. ADOPTION OF AGENDA
Motion: J. Cyr moved and P. Siemens seconded that the Board adopt the agenda. The motion passed 6/0.
IV. BOARD BUSINESS
M. Davey asked that all present introduce themselves.
R. Anderson gave an overview of the Regional Open Space Study, then led an input exercise for the Board
and Commission members on various aspects of the District's long-range objectives.
Following the input exercise, R. Anderson answered questions and provided clarification of issues.
Staff of the Santa Clara County Parks and Recreation Department presented an informational report on
that agency's range land management techniques.
V. ADJOURNMENT
M. Davey adjourned the Special Meeting at 9:15 p.m.
