HomeMy Public PortalAbout1955-05-16 Meeting1 4 MAY 16, 1955 The Council of Bal Harbour Village met Monday, May 16, 1955 at 10:00 o'clock A. M. for the purpose of inducting the new members into office. Mayor Leonard called the meeting to order ,and. Councilmen -elect Broeman, Brown and Landis were sworn in by the 'tillage Clerk. The anti - communistic oath was then taken by Mr. Freeman and Mr. Landis. Dr. Leonard as outgoing Mayor and Councilman then turned the chair over to Assistant Mayor Beatty who continued with the meeting. The temporary chairmen then informed the council that the next order of business was the election of r. Mayor. It was moved by Mr. Frown, seconded Far Mr. Collins and unanimously voted that Mr. John F. Beatty be elected Mayor of Ban. Harbour Village for two years and he was duly sworn by the Village Clerk. Mayor Beatty then called for the election of an Assistant. Mayor. It was moved by Mr. Landis, seconded by Mr. Collins, that :ir. Dwight. W. Brocma.n be elected Assistant Mayor, and unanimously voted. Mr. Broeman was then sworn. It was moved b: Mr. Broeman, seconded by Mr. Landis, that reading of the previous minutes be held until the next regular meeting. Mr. Beatty explained to the new members that the council had in the past been meeting on the third Monday of every month and asked for an opinion as to whether this would be convenient. It was the consensus of opinion that this night would be retained as the refuular meeting. nightand that the council would meet at 7:00 o'clock P. M. The council then paid tribute to Dr. Leonard for his work during the past years. Mr. Webb reported that, the two bills sutmitt.erl by Be] Harbour had been approved by the Legislature and that Mr. Anderson would give a full report at the meeting following. The council then decided that it would be more convenient., for the June Meeting to be held June 13t.h.
