HomeMy Public PortalAboutStony Brook Mill Sites Committee -- 2006-05-22 MinutesTown of Brewster Mill Sites Committee Minutes of Meeting May 22, 2006 Attendees: Dana Condit, Faythe Ellis, Joyce Davis, Roger O'Day, Carl Ahlstrom, Frank Borek (Miller) Absent: Bill Todd • Meeting called to order at 7 PM • Election of Officers: o Dana Condit, Chairperson o Faythe Ellis, Treasurer o Joyce Davis, Secretary Discussion: • Brewster in Bloom is Apri128`~ to 30`x, 2006. Discussion re: whether we can be open or not. It was greed to have the museum open from lOAM to 2 PM with no grinding of corn and no weaving on barn loom. • Recruitment of volunteers: o Joyce will contact Council on Aging, Jean Sears and obtain information. o Faythe will place ads in the Cape Cod Times and The Cape Codder. o Volunteer Brunch: Saturday, April 8d', lOAM to 12Noon @ Faythe's house. • Discussion regarding publicity - Faythe will contact Connor Hayes to see if he is interested. Until then, Faythe will assume responsibility. • Barn Loom -will develop a plan for instruction on weaving, estimate for repair. Joyce will research contacts and make a proposal. • Operation of Museum: o Discussion regarding what weekend days museum to be open. It was decided to be open on Satwdays, from 10 AM to 2 PM, with two, two how shifts of volunteers. o Season to start June 3ni with August 26`~ being the last Satwday. o Special events: June24th -Gayle Condit demonstrating Sailor's Valentines; July 22nd serve Indian Pudding; August 26d' serve cornbread. Faythe to contact volunteers regarding preparing pudding/cornbread. • Faythe announced that on May 23nd a group of third graders would like to tow the mill. Faythe and Carl have volunteered to be docents. • Discussion re: Pear Tree: Pear tree that was taken down is to be replaced. A discussion was held and it was decided, if possible, to plant a Linden Pear Tree. Per Dana, Ted Brown to do the work and submit invoice. Carl will coordinate with Ted Brown to select tree, transport and assist with planting. • Projects to be addressed for repair: 1. Stone retaining walls 2. Bridge on north side of building 3. Brick walkway 4. Hole in grinding stone on floor of grinding room Dana to investigate cost and get proposal. • Cabinet for Milling Room: Dana to contact Peter Canning regarding cost, time, etc. Cabinet to be same as in museum. • Community Preservation Act: Discussion held re: if repair issues possibly applicable; need suggestions re: where we could use these monies. Dana to coordinate suggestions and investigate. • Cornmeal Bags: Dana to order 500 bags. • DVDs of Herring Run: Faythe to order from Paul @ Stony Brook Video. • Andrew Schrake: Dana to contact re: plan for building repairs, timing, cost, etc. and report back to committee.
