RESOLUTION NO. 99-305 ADOPTED September 28, 1999
A RESOLUTION: AUTHORIZING THE PLANTING OF TREES IN THE MEDIAN OF
MEMORIAL DRIVE BETWEEN WEST MARKET STREET AND
CORNWALL STREET
WHEREAS, residents of Memorial Drive requested that trees be planted in the median of
Memorial Drive between West Market Street and Cornwall Street; and
WHEREAS, the Tree Commission has reviewed a planting plan showing the installation
of four (4) maples and one Kousa Dogwood in the median of Memorial Drive and recommended
approval with the conditions listed in the September 14, 1999 memo from Calvin Grow to Jay
Banks; and
WHEREAS, the types of trees recommended comply with VDOT guidelines for
plantings near roadway; and
WHEREAS, the types of trees recommended do not grow as large as many other types of
trees and the root system will be less likely to intrude into the existing sanitary sewer lines
located in the median of Memorial Drive; and
WHEREAS, residents of Memorial Drive have volunteered to purchase, plant and
maintain the recommended trees at no cost to the town; and
WHEREAS, planting of trees within the town is a high priority to the Town Council.
THEREFORE, RESOLVED by the Council of the Town of Leesburg in Virginia as
follows:

AUTHORIZING THE PLANTING OF TREES IN THE MEDIAN OF
MEMORIAL DRIVE BETWEEN WEST MARKET STREET AND
CORNWALL STREET
SECTION I. The planting of 5 trees in the median of Memorial Drive between West
Market Street and Cornwall Street in accordance with the planting plan recommended by the
Leesburg Tree Commission and with the conditions referenced above is hereby authorized.
SECTION II. The actual trees selected for planting and planting process must meet the
approval of the Town's Arborist.
