HomeMy Public PortalAboutAgriculture Commission -- 2007-01-11 MinutesMINUTES of the MEETING of The BREWSTER AGRICULTURAL COMIVIISSION Held Thursday, January 11, 2007, at 7:00 p.m. At the Brewster Town Office Building, 2198 Main Street, Room A Present: Peter Herrmann, Heather Mangelinkx, Dave Carlson, Jack Latham, Rebecca Howes, Stephen Brown Mr. Hemnann called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m., minutes of the November 9th, 2006 meeting were accepted and unanimously approved by the board. Ms Howes reported that we should draft a letter that the Board of Health can send to barn permit holders if they would like their name released to the Agricultural Commission. We are not allowed that listing due to homeland security. She also reported that the fire department is drawing up specifications for agricultural burning. An agricultural permit must be filled out with the fire department for approval. Jack Latham will speak with the fire chief as they had burning hours between 10 am to 4 pm however agricultural rules say burning can begin 2 hours after sunrise. Discussion on how we can get the barn permit people to respond to our letter was discussed. It would be important to keep them up to date about agricultural issues, such as burning permit requirements. Mr. Carlson suggested we have an email account so that farms can stay in touch with us. He will check with town hall about getting an email account. Mr. Carlson drew up a report for the annual town report. All accepted and approved his report. He also suggested that we need to get the farms working together to help pass the bylaw along with getting media coverage of farming in Brewster perhaps taking a historical perspective showing the loss of farmland. Mr. Herrmann reported the Mass Legislature has put together the regulations on windmills and he will get copies for the board at the next meeting. Members worked on the draft of the letter to farms - copy enclosed. At 8:45 Mr. Brown motioned and Mr. Latham seconded and motion was unanimous to go into executive session Motion to end executive session and adjourn at 9:00 pm was made and all agreed.
