A RESOLUTION: URGING SHENANDOAH UNIVERSITY TO SELECT A SITE
WITHIN THE CORPORATE LIMITS OF THE TOWN OF
LEESBURG
WHEREAS, Shenandoah University has offered courses in Leesburg since 1990;
and
WHEREAS, Shenandoah University is presently located in the former Loudoun
Hospital at 124 Cornwall Street; and
WHEREAS, in 1990 Shenandoah University and the Town of Leesburg
established a working relationship with the town providing facilities to the university to
conduct classes; and
WHEREAS, the university has benefited from its relationship with the town by
receiving assistance with special events and other issues of importance to the university;
and
WHEREAS, the university and the town have benefited from programs and
training during the past decade; and
WHEREAS, the town and surrounding areas have experienced significant growth;
and
WHEREAS, a Leesburg location for Shenandoah University provides an
environment more appropriate for a university setting and provides a factor of
differentiation from other institutions in eastern Loudoun County; and
WHEREAS, the Town of Leesburg, through the Mayor, Vice Mayor and Council
have stated their desire to maintain the working relationship developed between the town
and the university since 1990, which includes a campus within the town limits of
Leesburg; and
WHEREAS, the university has been informed that Loudoun Healthcare,
Incorporated is selling the Cornwall Street property; and
RESOLUTION:

SHENANDOAH UNIVERSITY
WHEREAS, the university does not wish to remain at this site, at the location
offered by the contract purchaser of the Cornwall Street property.
THEREFORE, RESOLVED by the Council of the Town of Leesburg in Virginia
as follows:
The Mayor and Council hereby urge Shenandoah University to select a site within
the corporate limits of the Town of Leesburg.
