The BREWSTER AGRICULTURAL COMMISSION
Held Thursday, September 13th at 7:00 p.m.
At the Brewster Town Office Building, 2198 Main Street, Room A
Present: Peter Hemnann, Heather Mangelinkx, Dave Carlson, Jack Latham, Julie
Trzcinski and Rebecca Howes
Mr. Herrmann called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.
Minutes of the August 9, 2007 meeting were accepted and unanimously approved by the
board.
Mr. Herrmann brought up a letter he had received from the Board of Health regarding
waste disposal asking that we have a meeting with them regarding this matter. It was
noted that Dennis DPW will accept manure for free with our without a dump sticker. Ms.
Trzcinski will check with Bob Bersin of the Brewster DPW to see if he ever spoke with
the selectmen's office about accepting manure for free.
Handling the manure issue was discussed the two biggest issues are:
Regional -run off of nitrates into streams
Local -odor and insects
The best solutions for dealing with manure would be to either compost or take to the
dump which is difficult for some people to transport. Different options would apply for
different sites depending upon acreage, number of livestock etc. Mr. Miller of
Never2Late Farm will try to find information about how other towns handle this.
Meanwhile Mr. Carlson will get the existing regulations from the Brewster Board of
Health and see how they resolved an issue they had this past summer. Mr. Herrmann will
hold off having a meeting with the Board of Health until we can get all the necessary
information and discuss a plan.
Also discussed was a planning board warrant article for fall town meeting supporting the
deletion of a section calling fora 25' height instead of 30' on outbuildings and a 50'
property line set back and 100' from a dwelling. NIr. Latham will ask Victor about this
article.
The next meeting will be held on October 18a'. Mr. Carlson motioned to adjourn the
meeting at 8:45pm, Ms. Trzcinski seconded and all agreed.
