ENDORSEMENT OF A TEA-21 GRANT APPLICATION BY THE
CIVIL WAR PRESERVATION TRUST FOR THE PURPOSE OF
PRESERVING CIVIL WAR BATTLEFIELD SITES INCLUDING
BALLS BLUFF
WHEREAS, the Town of Leesburg desires to preserve the Balls Bluffbattlefield site; and
WHEREAS, the Town of Leesburg has previously been unsuccessful in applying for
TEA-21 grant funds to preserve the Balls Bluffbattlefield site; and
WHEREAS, the Town of Leesburg and the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority
are working cooperatively to jointly acquire the Balls Bluffbattlefield site; and
WHEREAS, the Civil War Preservation Trust is committed to preserving civil war
battlefield sites in the Commonwealth of Virginia; and
WHEREAS, the Civil War Preservation Trust has identified the Balls Bluff battlefield
site as a site worthy of preservation; and
WHEREAS, the Civil War Preservation Trust plans to submit a TEA-21 Grant
Application for the purpose of preserving civil war battlefields including Balls Bluff; and
WHEREAS, the Civil War Preservation Trust has identified $250,000 for the
preservation of Balls Bluff battlefield site as part of the TEA-21 Grant Application; and
WHEREAS, the Civil War Preservation Trust has officially requested a resolution of
endorsement from the Town of Leesburg supporting the respective TEA-21 Grant Application;
and
A RESOLUTION:
ENDORSEMENT OF TEA-21 GRANT APPLICATION BY THE
CIVIL WAR PRESERVATION TRUST FOR THE PURPOSE OF
PRESERVING CIVIL WAR BATTLEFIELD SITES INCLUDING
BALLS BLUFF
WHEREAS, the Director of Parks and Recreation recommends approval of resolution of
endorsement of a TEA-21 Grant Application by the Civil War Preservation Trust for the purpose
of preserving civil war battlefield sites including Balls Bluff.
THEREFORE, the Council of the Town of Leesburg in Virginia endorses the TEA-21
Grant Application by the Civil War Preservation Trust for the purpose of preserving civil war
battlefield sites including Balls Bluff.
