ADOPTED
A RESOLUTION: SUPPORTING THE EFFORTS OF THE LOUDOUN COUNTY BOARD OF
SUPERVISORS TO HAVE DRY MILL ROAD BETWEEN THE ROUTE 7
BYPASS AND OLD ROUTE 7 AND OLD ROUTE 7 BETWEEN DRY MILL
ROAD AND ROUTE 287 DESIGNATED AS A VIRGINIA SCENIC BY-WAY
WHEREAS, Dry Mill Road from the Leesburg Bypass to its terminus at Clarke's Gap is a historic
and scenic road having been the first route from the Town of Leesburg to Winchester; and
WHEREAS, old Route 7 where it connects to Dry Mill Road and intersects with the northern
segment of Route 704 at the edge of the Town of Hamilton is a scenic route for motorists traveling west
through Loudoun County; and
WHEREAS, these two roads together provide a tour of a portion of Loudoun County that includes
several of its most picturesque and historical towns and countryside; and
WHEREAS, from this route, often running parallel, is the W&OD hiking and biking trail that
follows the route of the Alexandria, Loudoun and Hampshire Railroad.
THEREFORE, RESOLVED by the Council of the Town of Leesburg in Virginia as follows:
The Town Council of the Town of Leesburg unanimously supports the efforts of the Loudoun
County Board of Supervisors to have this route designated as a Virginia Scenic By-Way by the Department
of Conservation and Recreation and the Virginia Department of Transportation. This designation will serve
to increase tourism and recognize another route to enjoy Loudoun County's natural beauty and scenic
travelways.
