A RESOLUTION: INITIATING AND REFERKING AMENDMENTS TO THE
LEESBURG ZONING ORDINANCE, ARTICLE 2 GENERAL
REGULATIONS, REGARDING ZONING OF ANNEXED PROPERTY
WHEREAS, it is the intent and desire of Council to fulfill the goals and policies of the
1997 Trmm Plan; and
WHEREAS, the Zoning Ordinance does not currently address the zoning of property
annexed into the Town; and
WHEREAS, amending the general regulations will allow property annexed into the Town
to be automatically zoned as Town R-E Residential Estate Zoning District unless and until the
property is rezoned to a more appropriate zoning district in accordance with the Urban Growth
Area policies of the 1997 Tr~wn Plan and the procedures of Article 13 of the Zoning Ordinance;
and
WHEREAS, the public necessity, convenience, general welfare and good zoning practice
require the proposed amendments.
THEREFORE, RESOLVED by the Council of the Town Leesburg in Virginia as follows:
SECTION I. The following text amendments to Article 2 of the Leesburg Zoning
Ordinance are hereby initiated and referred to the Planning Commission for recommendation:

Whenever property shall be added to the Town by adjustment of Town boundaries, such
property automatically shall be zoned R-E Residential Estate without any further action.
This zoning designation shall be effective upon the date the boundary adjustment shill
have been finally approved by a court of competent jurisdiction. Subsequent rezoning of

the property may be made in accordance with the provisions of Article 13 Amendments
SECTION II. Pursuant to Chapter 22, Title 15.2-2204 of the 1950 Code of Virginia, as
amended, a notice that a Zoning Ordinance Text Amendment to specify R-E District zoning upon
annexation will be considered jointly by the Leesburg Town Council and the Leesburg Planning
Commission shall be published in the Leesburg Today on May 1~0, 2000 and May 17, 2000 for a
Joint Public Hearing to be held on Tuesday, May 22, 2000 in the Council Chambers of the
Government Center at 25 West Market Street, Leesburg, Virginia, 20175.
