HomeMy Public PortalAboutCable Television Advisory -- 2007-03-06 MinutesMinutes of the meeting of the Brewster Cable TV Advisory Committee scheduled for 7:00 pm on Tuesday 6 March 2007. The meeting is called to order at 7:02 pm on Tuesday 6 Mazch 2007 by Larry Greeley. Members present at this time are: Larry Greeley Norman Adams Jim Tvrdik (a recently sworn-in new member of this committee) Art Stringer There are no persons present in the audience azea. Norman Adams distributes copies of the draft minutes of the meeting of Wednesday 7 February 2007. A motion is made and seconded to accept the minutes of the meeting of Wednesday 7 February 2007 as presented. The vote to accept is unanimous. At this point there is some discussion of the Comcast G (of PEG) fee -how much money has the town received so far? Larry states that the total is about $34,000 of which about $7,000 was paid for 2006 and the balance was paid for the first half of 2007. The discussion now turns to what costs might be for the Brewster G channel. The only nearby towns in which a G channel has been operated by the town for any length of time are Harwich and Chatham. In the operation of a town channel there aze both costs related to the equipment and costs related to people using the equipment to generate the desired TV coverage. There is some overlap of town channel tasks with IT tasks which currently involve support for the town operations which depend on use of computers (taxes, licenses, budgets, etc) and also support for the town web site. Whether one person could cover alt these bases is not known. In the early stages the town may be able to continue to rely on some volunteer effort. In Harwich there is a full-time town employee (Jill Mason) who works in a town space. She is paid azound $45,000 per year and receives the same benefits as do other town employees. We do not have specific information for Chatham but it should be available since they have been operating a G channel for some time. Larry plans to talk with the people in the Chatham operation to get what information he can. Larry will also talk with Jill Mason to get more detailed information about the Harwich operation. Jim will talk with Steve Buss who is a media person in Dennis to learn more about what is going on in Dennis. Orleans has been accumulating Comcast G payments for some time and has just installed equipment for the purpose of creating a G channel. Events are developing rapidly in Orleans and Jim, who has been closely involved with the purchase and installation of the Orleans equipment, and also has been involved in its use, will be able to keep track of the situation in regard to the Orleans G channel. Larry notes that as a support for the people from the 6 lower Cape towns who have been working in the so far somewhat informal "Lower Cape Public Access Regionalization Group" he has prepared 6 large notebooks of relevant material, one notebook for each of the 6 towns. The next meeting of the Brewster CTVAC is scheduled for 7:00 pm on Tuesday 3 Apri12007. (This is now the regular time for the next meeting ie at 7:00 pm on the first Tuesday of the next month.) The meeting seems to be out of other business to be taken up tonight, and Art SMnger makes a motion to adjourn. It is seconded by Larry Greeley and is passed unanimously. The meeting is adjourned at 8:22 pm. Submitted by Norman Adams, Clerk, Brewster CTVAC ~v` ~- S' z~: ~ d z- ~nr Zo. ~_ .~ 31 ~~,`~!3 a8
