A RESOLUTION: INITIATING AMENDMENTS TO THE ZONING ORDINANCE TO
PER2vlIT A COI J,F, GE OR UNIVERSITY IN THE I-1 INDUSTRIAL
RESEARCH PARK ZONING DISTRICT
WHEREAS, it is the desire and intent of Council to provide educational diversity and
opportunities in the Town of Leesburg; and
WHEREAS, the Zoning Ordinance does not currently permit a college or university as
either a by-right or special exception use in the I-1 District; and
WHEREAS, the I-1 District is suited for college or university uses based on the nature of
other uses permitted in the district and the policies of the 1997 Town Plan; and
WHEREAS, the public necessity, convenience, general welfare and good zoning practice
require the proposed amendments.
THEREFORE, RESOLVED by the Council of the Town Leesburg in Virginia as follows:
SECTION I. The follOwing text amendments to the Leesburg Zoning Ordinance are hereby
initiated and referred to the Planning Commission for recommendation:

SECTION 11. Pursuant to Chapter 22, Title 15.2-2204 of the 1950 Code of Virginia, as
amended, a notice that a Zoning Ordinance Text Amendment to specify R-E District zoning upon
annexation will be considered jointly by the Leesburg Town Council and the Leesburg Planning
Commission shall be published in the Leesburg Today on June 28 and July 5, 2000 for a Joint
Public Hearing to be held on Tuesday, July 11, 2000 in the Council Chambers of the Government
Center at 25 West Market Street, Leesburg, Virginia, 20176.
