1. Call to Order
Chair Kittrell called the meeting to order at 12:06 pm
2. Introductions
The Steering Committee members were introduced, along with City Officials.
3. Brief overview of the meeting,which is to discuss building fire sprinkler requirements.
Current city code was discussed and that various technical sub-committees are reviewing fire
sprinklers. Final recommendations for fire sprinklers will be submitted by the technical
subcommittees to the Steering Committee. This meeting was just to present the facts of what
was included in the 2015 code version and to have brief discussions.
4. Residential Code and fire sprinklers
The residential code was reviewed for fire sprinklers. After considerable discussion, including
review of recent system installation by Habitat for Humanity, the Residential Technical Sub-
Committee is recommending that fire sprinklers be amended out of the 2015 code version
adoption. This only affects one and two family dwellings, including town homes. City Code will
need to be amended by State Statute to offer fire sprinklers to new home buyers.
5. Building, Fire and Existing Building Code and fire sprinklers
The building,fire and existing applicable code sections were reviewed for fire sprinklers.
Discussion centered on residential unit construction. A final decision was not achieved and will
be discussed further in technical subcommittees.
6. Public Comments
The main public comments that were made are to have the Fire Department or committee
members review more statistics as to how well fire sprinklers actually save lives and property.

The meeting adjourned at 2:00 pm.
