HomeMy Public PortalAbout2000_07_25_r144 The Town of 1 .eesburg, irginia RESOLUTION NO. 2000-144 PRESENTED ADOPTED July 25, 2000 July 25, 2000 A RESOLUTION: SUPPORTING THE MODIFICATION OF THE STARTING POINT FOR THE VIRGINIA SCENIC BYWAY DESIGNATION OF DRY MILL ROAD TO THE INTERSECTION OF LOUDOUN AND KING STREETS. WHEREAS, Dry Mill Road from the Leesburg Bypass to its terminus at Clarke's Gap is a historic and scenic road having been the first route from Leesburg to Winchester; and WHEREAS, on February 23, 2000 the Town Council of Leesburg adopted Resolution 2000-47 supporting the efforts of the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors to have Dry Mill Road between the Route 7 Bypass and Old Route 7 and Old Route 7 between Dry Mill Road and Route 287 designated as a Virginia Scenic Byway; and WHEREAS, the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation recommends that the Scenic Byway designation begin at the intersection of Loudoun and King Streets so as to physically connect Route 15 and Route 278, which have already been designated as Virginia Scenic Byways by the Commonwealth Transportation Board. THEREFORE, RESOLVED by the Council of the Town of Leesburg in Virginia as follows: The Town Council of the Town of Leesburg enthusiastically supports designating the intersection of Loudoun and King Streets as the starting point of the Virginia Scenic Byways designation of Dry Mill Road, as recommended by the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation. This designation will serve to link existing scenic byways in an effort to increase tourism in Leesburg and Loudoun County. PASSED this 25t~ day of July 2000. ATTEST: Clerf{ of (~unc~ B.J.
