A RESOLUTION: PRESENTED August 8, 2000 2000-163 ADOPTED August 8, 2000 INITIATING AMENDMENTS TO THE LEESBURG ZONING ORDINANCE AND ZONING DISTRICT MAP TO EXPAND THE HISTORIC OVERLAY (H-1)DISTRICT WHEREAS, it is the intent and desire of Council to protect and enhance the designated Historic Overlay District by identifying significant areas outside this district that deserve protection in accordance with the goals of the 1997 Town Plan; and WHEREAS, Zoning Ordinance Section 5A-8(1) states that a property may be eligible for inclusion in the iHistoric Overlay District if it has significant character, interest or value as part of the town's development or heritage; and WHEREAS, staff has identified areas bordering the existing Historic Overlay District that may warrant inclusion in that district based upon the criteria set forth in Section 5A-8(1) of the Zoning Ordinance; and WHEREAS, the public necessity, convenience, general welfare and good zoning practice require the proposed amendments. THEREFORE, RESOLVED by the Council of the Town Leesburg in Virginia as follows: SECTION I. The following amendments are hereby initiated and referred to the Planning Commission for recommendation: 1. Amend Section 5A-3 of the Leesburg Zoning Ordinance to include appropriate properties along South King Street and Edwards Ferry Road in the description of the H-1 District. -2- INITIATING AMENDMENTS TO THE TOWN OF LEESBURG ZONING AND THE ZONING DISTRICT MAP TO EXPAND THE H-1 DISTRICT ORDINANCE 2. Amend the Zoning District Map to include appropriate properties along South King Street and Edwards Ferry Road in the H-1 District. SECTION 11. The Planning Commission shall hold a public heating to consider these amendments to the Zoning Ordinance, and report its recommendation to the Town Council pursuant to Chapter 22, Title 15.2-2204 of the 1950 Code of Virginia, as amended. 8 th August PASSED this day of ,2000.
