Leesburg Airshow Marketing Campaign Wins Tourism
Promotion of the Year Award from Visit Loudoun
Leesburg, VA (April 13, 2012) – At Visit Loudoun’s 2011
Loudoun Tourism Awards last month, the Town of Leesburg
Parks & Recreation Department, along with graphic design firm
Custom Graphics, took home top honors in the Tourism
Promotion of the Year category for the 2nd annual Leesburg
Airshow.
The airshow marketing campaign contained a combination of
traditional and innovative elements, including:
• a new website (www.leesburgairshow.com)
• print, online and radio ads
• event listings on local and state organizational websites
• postings on social media sites Facebook and Twitter
• posters and rack cards
• a banner on the Dulles Greenway
The award nomination highlighted some of the more unique
aspects of the campaign, such as having event posters delivered
by airplane to regional airports, as well as the use of social media. The campaign’s success was
evident in the turnout for the event given the “less than ideal” weather conditions – more than
an inch of rain and temperatures barely reaching 40°F.
“We were surprised and delighted to be selected as this year’s winner,” commented Kate
Trask, Deputy Director of the Leesburg Parks & Recreation Department. “This award really
confirms that the Town’s partnership with the Airport Commission’s volunteer Airshow
Committee was a sound decision and a success. It is especially rewarding to have our fellow
industry professionals recognize our efforts.”
