Amy Wyks Named Leesburg’s New Utilities Director
Leesburg, VA (April 16, 2012) – Town Manager
John Wells announced today that Amy Wyks,
currently the Assistant Director of Finance for
Operations, has been selected as the new Director
of the Town’s Utilities Department. Amy was
chosen for the position through a national search
following the retirement of long-time director
Randy Shoemaker in July 2011. She will begin her
new duties with the Utilities Department on
Monday, April 23, 2012.
Amy joined the Town of Leesburg in August 2000
as an Engineer for the Utilities Department and
was promoted to Senior Engineer in May 2001. In
May 2010, she transferred to the Finance
Department as Assistant Director for Operations. Prior to working for the Town of Leesburg,
Amy held the position of Transportation Engineer with PBS&J in Chantilly, Virginia. She
graduated from Virginia Tech with a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering in 1997 and is a
Virginia Professional Engineer. In May 2006, Amy received her Master’s Degree in Public
Administration from George Mason University, through GMU’s Northern Virginia Public Service
Fellows Program.
During her tenure with the Town’s Finance Department, Amy implemented a series of
measures aimed at streamlining work processes and improving customer service. One of the
most popular of these changes is the ability for customers to request starting or stopping their
water and sewer service via the Town’s website. She also developed and implemented a
comprehensive cross-training program for Finance Operations staff. Other changes include the
permanent vehicle decals and enhancements to the collections process for delinquent
accounts.
